The most common sheets used in the manufacture of sandwich panels are galvanized and aluzinc sheets. Both of these sheets have high strength and durability and are resistant to corrosion and rust. Despite these similarities, aluzinc and galvanized sheets also have some differences. In previous articles, we have discussed Types of sandwich panel sheets, and in this article, we intend to address the key differences between aluzinc and galvanized sheets.
The difference between Aluzinc and Galvanized
Steel sheets play the most important role in the construction of prefabricated panels. Various sheets are used as insulating coverings in these panels. The most important drawback of steel sheets is their vulnerability to corrosion and oxidation. For this reason, an attempt is made to cover the weaknesses of these sheets by creating a coating on the surface of the sheet.
Difference in cladding alloy
The most important difference between Aluzinc and galvanized is the type of material used to cover the surface of these sheets. In galvanized sheets, zinc metal is generally used in various ways to cover the surface of the sheet. In galvanized sheets, zinc metal is generally used in various ways to cover the surface of the sheet. In Aluzinc, in addition to zinc, other elements are also used for this purpose. This one issue creates different properties in these two sheets.
Aluzinc sheets are usually coated with aluminum and silicon. Aluzinc coating generally uses 55 percent aluminum, 43 percent zinc, and about 1 percent silicon.
Appearance difference
Another difference between galvanized and aluzinc sheets is the difference in their appearance. Both sheets have a similar appearance, however, the surface of aluzinc sheets looks more uniform and smoother than galvanized sheets. In addition, the surface of aluzinc sheets is usually painted, while galvanized sheets are used without painting. Galvanized sheets have a brighter and shinier appearance, and for this reason, despite their colorfastness, they are usually used with their original appearance.
Corrosion resistance
The main difference between Aluzinc and galvanized sheets is their resistance to oxidation and corrosion. Aluzinc sheets are usually resistant to rust because they are covered with aluminum sheet. In general, the resistance of Aluzinc sheets is much higher than that of galvanized sheets.
Price and cost of production
Aluzinc sheets are more expensive than galvanized sheets because more expensive elements are used to produce them. Of course, another factor that determines the price is the type and quality of the base sheet in the construction of sandwich panel, which should be considered.
The purity of the material covering the sheet surface, as well as its type, is the main determinant of the price difference between galvanized and aluzinc sheets, provided that the cross-sectional area of both metals is considered the same.
Sheet dimensions
There are differences in the standard dimensions of galvanized and aluzinc sheets. The dimensions of the sheets generally depend on the brand and manufacturer, however, it can be considered that different dimensions are considered for these sheets, especially in terms of thickness. Galvanized sheets are usually thicker than aluzinc sheets. This problem is more common in sheets produced by the hot-dip galvanizing process. The thickness of aluzinc sheets is between 0.4 and 0.8 mm, but the thickness of galvanized sheets starts from 0.5 mm and reaches 2 mm. Therefore, in general, the thickness of aluzinc sheets is less than that of galvanized sheets.
Longevity and durability
Aluzinc sheets have a longer lifespan, strength, and durability than galvanized sheets. The use of aluminum, zinc, and silicon coatings on aluzinc sheets increases their resistance to erosive factors such as rust and corrosion, thus increasing the lifespan of these panels.
Galvanized sheets, however, are less resistant and generally have a shorter lifespan. While it is sometimes seen that the galvanized coating gradually peels off the surface of the steel sheet, the surface coating of Aluzinc sheets is more adhesive and does not peel off easily.
summary
Aluzinc and galvanized sheets are both among the most common choices in the manufacture of prefabricated panels. These sheets differ in terms of the manufacturing process, which is the main factor in obtaining their properties and applications. The most important difference between these sheets is in the elements used in the coating process, their resistance and lifespan, price, thickness, and strength. In this article from Parsin, we discussed the differences between these two sheets in detail.
